Are Ford F-150 and F-250 Doors the Same?

Of course, if you’re planning on swapping doors between an F-150 and F-250, you need to know if they are the same.

If they aren’t, you might end up making your truck look ridiculous.

The doors are almost always the same on Ford F-150s and F-250s of the same year. They also are often identical across generations. But, remember that although the doors are typically the same across years and generations, the wiring in modern vehicles can make swapping doors difficult.

In this article, I will describe the doors in the F-150 and F-250, the difficulties of swapping them out, and the cost of replacement.

Then, I will round out the article by detailing some of the other similarities and differences between the F-150 and F-250.

Do Ford F-150s and F-250s Have the Same Doors?

For the most part, F-150s and F-250s have the same doors.

But, if the two cars are not from the same year, you may encounter some differences in the door size and style.

In general, though, if the two trucks are from similar years, they likely have the same doors, even if one is from an F-150 and the other is from an F-250.

Yet, you should keep in mind that SuperCrew trucks usually do not have the same size doors as other cab types.

Can I Switch Out F-150 Doors for F-250 Doors and Vice Versa?

Most of the time, the doors for the F-150 and F-250 are the same size.

However, you should remember that just because two doors are the same size doesn’t necessarily mean you can easily just swap them out.

You have to bear in mind that the electronics in car doors have become more complex over the years.

So, you might have a rather difficult time swapping one door for another in newer F-150s and F-250s.

In general, the newer the two doors you’re switching, the harder it will be to install them.

You should also note that when exchanging particular F-150 doors for F-250 doors or vice versa, you may need to get different hinges even if the doors are the same size.

And, of course, don’t forget that you can’t swap SuperCrew truck doors for those of other cab types.

Is it Difficult to Swap Out Doors in Different Fords?

It can be difficult to swap out the doors in different Fords, such as the F-150 for the F-250 or vice versa.

Since the wiring and electronic elements of car doors have gotten more complicated over time, new doors can be pretty tricky to swap out if you don’t know much about wiring.

Even though you can usually swap out the doors in an F-150 and F-250, it doesn’t mean you necessarily should.

In older models, such as those made before the year 2000, you can pretty easily swap out the doors.

Thus, there’s no reason you shouldn’t switch the doors in older trucks.

However, when it comes to newer models, you are much better off getting a door that exactly matches your truck.

Doing so will make the wiring work much, much easier, will guarantee the door fits, and will be less of a headache.

Can I Replace My Ford Truck Doors Myself?

You should not replace your Ford truck doors yourself unless you have experience doing so.

Most car doors have airbags in them, which you don’t want to replace incorrectly.

If you do, it could lead to death in a serious accident.

Thus, you should leave door replacement to the professionals.

Will Ford F-350 Doors Fit an F-150 or F-250?

In general, Ford F-350 doors should fit an F-150 or F-250.

If you want the best fit between an F-350 and an F-150 or F-250, you should swap the doors of two vehicles made in the same year.

However, of course, because of the variations between F-150s, F-250s, and F-350s, you should always check to ensure the door will fit before purchasing it.

Do F-150s and F-250s Have the Same Cab?

In some years, the F-150 and F-250 have the same exact cab.

For other years, the cabs are similar but not identical.

But of course, this refers to cabs with the same cab type.

What I mean is that an extended cab F-150 and extended cab F-250 will probably have very similar cabs.

However, for example, a standard F-150 cab will not be the same as a SuperCrew F-250 cab.

Truck Classification

Probably the most notable difference between the F-150 and F-250 is their classifications.

You see, the F-150 is a light-duty truck, while the F-250 is a heavy-duty truck.

Light-duty trucks, of course, are lighter than heavy-duty trucks and have lower payloads and towing capabilities.

Overall, light-duty trucks are preferable for residential/family use, while heavy-duty trucks are better off in commercial situations.

Overall, the F-250 has a higher towing capability.

While the F-150 typically has a towing capability between 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg) and 11,300 lbs (5,126 kg), the average F-250’s is around 12,300 lbs (5,579 kg) and 15,000 lbs (6,804 kg).

Payload Capacity

The F-150’s payload capacity usually runs between 1,300 lbs (590 kg) and 2,300 lbs (1,043 kg).

The payload capacity for the F-250 is 2,400 lbs (1,089 kg) to 4,400 lbs (1,996 kg).

Conclusion

When comparing trucks of the same year, F-150 and F-250 doors are usually pretty similar, if not identical.
